The Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA) represents the wider school community, and all parents, teachers and others involved in the daily life of school are members of the association by virtue of their relationship to the school. However, the actual work is organised by the PTFA Executive Committee, which always welcomes new members; and volunteers from the wider PTFA Community.
The PTFA holds an open meeting once a month during term-time, and provides a forum for parents' and teachers’ joint interests and concerns and all members of the School Community are invited to attend.
The PTFA Executive Committee is made up of:
- Volunteer members who serve on the committee for a two-year term of office.
- Class Contacts are members of the committee during their term of office.
- Two members of staff who are appointed to represent College at PTFA committee meetings.
The appointment of volunteer members is confirmed at the Annual General Meeting of the Association, which normally takes place during the spring term.
The PTFA raises funds for projects that the school would not otherwise be able to undertake. In recent years, PTFA funds have contributed towards the theatre seating, playground equipment, refurbishment of gym floor, refurbishment of science laboratories, and items requested by wish list from the College of Teachers.
The main school fundraising events of the year, the Advent Fair and Guy Fawkes Day Fireworks are organised by the PTFA. Other fundraising activities organised by the PTFA have included an Art Fair and a Wellbeing festival. The PTFA share news in the weekly newsletter and Term Recorder which are distributed to parents via the pupils and the Newsletter is also emailed to all parents.
Besides the ongoing monthly meetings the PTFA also organises Open Meetings that take place between parents and teachers to discuss issues of current importance. Sub-committees that include staff representatives have dealt with issues such as property strategy, playground equipment, publicity and communications, etc.
Communication between the PTFA and College takes place through two College members who sit on the PTFA Committee, and we depend on the College representatives to:
- Bring to College the questions or issues raised in PTFA committee meetings.
- Report back to the PTFA on the conclusions reached by College.
All parents are welcome to attend PTFA meetings. Dates of meetings are normally the first Monday of every month and are advertised in the weekly newsletter.
